Filipinas Secure Semifinal Spot in 2025 SEA Games with Convincing Win Over Malaysia
The Philippine women’s national football team, known as the Filipinas, advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 Southeast Asian Games after a commanding 6-0 victory against Malaysia on Thursday in Thailand.
Alexa Pino was the standout player, scoring three goals during the match. She opened the scoring just before halftime at the 44th minute and continued her momentum in the second half with a goal at the 53rd minute. Pino completed her hat trick with a successful penalty kick in the 69th minute.
Other contributors included Jessika Cowart, who scored at the 66th minute, Ariana Markey with a goal in the 85th minute, and Anicka Castañeda, who sealed the win with a goal during stoppage time.
The Filipinas finished second in Group B, securing two wins and one loss, and boasting a +6 goal difference that ensured their progression to the knockout stage over Myanmar, which held a +2 goal difference.
Looking ahead, the Filipinas are set to face the host nation, Thailand, in the semifinals scheduled for Sunday.
