Firearm Component Seized at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2
The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) reported the interception of a firearm part at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on Tuesday. The item was identified as a lower receiver of a firearm during routine X-ray screening conducted by Security Screening Officer (SSO) Erwin Gonzales.
Upon detection, Gonzales alerted baggage inspector SSO Bernard Dela Cruz and Checkpoint Supervisor Narcisus Ramil Taquiqui, who promptly coordinated with the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP).
The owner of the bag, traveling to Butuan, was present during the inspection along with an airline representative and law enforcement officials. Due to the absence of the required license and permits for the firearm component, the passenger was barred from boarding and underwent further questioning by the PNP.
In a statement, OTS Administrator Undersecretary Gilberto Cruz expressed gratitude for the swift action taken by the PNP and reminded the public of the strict policies against transporting undocumented firearms. He emphasized that highly trained OTS personnel employ thorough screening to detect such prohibited items at transport terminals.
This incident underscores the continued vigilance of airport security personnel to ensure public safety and compliance with firearm regulations.
