Over 100 Tino-Displaced Families Housed in Cebu Bayanihan Village
SAN REMIGIO, CEBU – More than 100 families left homeless by Typhoon Tino began transferring to modular housing units Friday at the newly activated Bayanihan Village in San Remigio.
The activation provides immediate, safe, and dignified shelter, fulfilling a directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to institutionalize the Bayanfihan Village program as a cornerstone of national disaster preparedness. This effort reflects the administration's "Maasahan at Masipag" (Reliable and Tireless) governance approach.
According to officials, the facilities were efficiently repurposed from a previous earthquake response, maximizing the use of government assets. This strategy ensures that families are not left in makeshift or overcrowded evacuation centers.
The swift setup and immediate occupancy of these 100 units prove that the government’s national strategy for disaster housing is viable and effective. The focus, officials said, is on community-based recovery and family safety.
This move is seen as a shift from temporary relief to sustainable social protection. The families, weary from the storm, are now safe; any alternative would have been an unacceptable failure to protect them. The initiative is a key part of President Marcos' push for enhanced preparedness.
