Ex-Convict Rearrested at Checkpoint with Unlicensed Firearm in Cebu City
A 28-year-old man, who was freed from detention just two weeks ago, was apprehended once again following the discovery of an unlicensed firearm during a police checkpoint operation on F. Jaca Street, Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City at approximately 4:30 a.m. on September 16, 2025.
Identified by his alias "Badi," the suspect is a resident of the same barangay and lives with his partner. Authorities from the Inayawan Police detailed that the suspect attempted to evade the checkpoint by making a U-turn, during which he fell and the weapon he was carrying—a 357 caliber revolver without a serial number loaded with four live rounds—dropped to the ground.
Further investigation revealed that Badi was recently released from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Detention Facility in Barangay Kalunasan after being charged with violations of Republic Act 9165, concerning illegal drugs, on September 3, 2025.
When questioned, the suspect claimed ownership of the firearm was not his and stated that he earns his living as a motorcycle taxi driver.
The Inayawan Police have taken him into custody and he is set to face charges for violating Republic Act 10591 for carrying an unlicensed firearm.
