Alex Eala Advances to ASB Classic Quarterfinals with Commanding Win over Petra Marcinko

Alex Eala continued her strong performance at the ASB Classic in Auckland by convincingly defeating Croatian player Petra Marcinko 6-0, 6-2 in the Round of 16. The 20-year-old Filipina dominated the first set without dropping a game against Marcinko, a former junior world No. 1.

Marcinko offered more resistance in the second set, quickly leveling the score at 1-1 before breaking Eala’s serve to take a 2-1 lead. However, Eala regained momentum and secured the next five games to close out the match and advance to the quarterfinals.

Earlier in the tournament, Eala had ousted another Croatian competitor, Donna Vekic, demonstrating her growing confidence on the court. In the upcoming round, she is set to face either Magda Linette or Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

In addition to her singles success, Eala is making strides in the women’s doubles category. Partnered with American Iva Jovic, the duo advanced to the quarterfinals after a notable victory over Venus Williams and Elina Svitolina in the Round of 16.

Eala’s dual progress reflects her rising status in the international tennis scene, as she continues to showcase her talent and resilience against top competitors.
